The sheep know His Voice

7/3/2016

I came across a powerful example of what it means to tune out the voices of those who call with similar tones and even similar words but are not the Master’s voice.  The YouTube video posted by  Øyvind Kleiveland entitled, “Do sheep only obey their Master’s voice?”, demonstrated three test trials of persons who, using the same words as the Shepherd, raised their voice to call to his sheep.  Then the true Shepherd stepped forward and called.

As the three voices called forth to the sheep most of the sheep didn’t even look up. They were completely oblivious to the noise of the voices that were other than that of their Shepherd.  However, as soon as the true Shepherd stepped forward and sounded his call, the sheep looked up, bleated back in response and came running to him.

That, is how tuned in to God we must be – that we don’t even look up at the other voices for they are not His voice and therefore we cannot be bothered by them.

Amen, Lord. Let it be so. Train us, dear Lord. Train us.

John 10:1-5
“Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.  The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize the stranger’s voice.”
